We Struggle On....!

Yes, the OpenEdX website remained unavailable today when our DNS server was changed without an update to the domain record for lpss.me - note that the fault is not with OpenEdX but with our provider of web server resources.

Remember, the live discussion this week will be on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Eastern (check the link to find the time in your own time zone). We'll be talking about the motivation behind the cMOOC and how it differs from the traditional learning management system.

The LMS is dead, long live the LMS! (10 pros & 10 cons)
2016/03/08

from Donald Clark: "The LMS is dead, long live the LMS! (Swap out LMS with VLE if you wish.) Some love them, some hate them. Some love to hate them. Me? I see downsides and upsides. They work for some, not for others. So here’s my 10 pros and cons." [Direct Link]

xMOOC vs. cMOOC
2016/03/08

Don't forget to read the many comments in this item. "Lest you think this distinction is just an attempt to glom onto MOOC media mania to push a different educational agenda, the connectivist vision behind the cMOOC actually pre-dates the Stanford experiment (and resulting initiatives from that experiment such as Udacity, Coursera and edX) by several years." The Ultimate Student Guide to xMOOCs and cMOOCs
2016/03/08

In summary: "cMOOCs are also not typically sponsored or funded by higher education institutions but are organized by individuals with a passion for a specific content area. Organizers commit their time to create a framework for learning where participants from all over the world can connect." Posted by Debbie Morrison on Apr 22, 2013. [Direct Link]
